As spring rolls around again so does Mother’s Day. Although we should be showing appreciation and love for mothers and the tireless work that they do every day—including the emotional labour of the household the majority of the time, Mother’s Day is a great time to go the extra mile and show your love and gratitude.

Starting a new job at Sylvan Lake News wasn’t quite as terrifying as jumping out of a plane, but it has been fairly exhilarating.

Thanks to “protein” and “low carb” diets, the awareness of carbohydrate levels is very prevalent in our society. However, starches are making their way back to our dinner tables. Besides pasta and potatoes, rice is always a favorite accompaniment on our plates, and there are many varieties available to us. Are they all so bad? Not really, but let’s look at our choices and compare them to Quinoa.

Part of my work at the library is capturing our activities on camera, and it’s always a blast getting to watch people of all ages learn, create, and play at the library. Puppet shows, art classes, celebrations of all kinds … one of my favourites was a royal tea party that featured a visit from a staff member in an inflatable dinosaur suit: the Tea Rex!

As time allows, I love going to the movies.

Canada’s chattering classes – often more accustomed to playing the ineffectual dovish role – are rushing to prove their outrage over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and demonstrate their resolve to make Russian President Vladimir Putin pay.

Canadians are hurting more than ever. Being at events throughout my constituency in the past number of weeks has shown me the depth of this. The combined cost of living crisis, confusion and backlog of federal benefits, and mental health crisis is taking a huge toll on Canadians, especially our senior citizens on a fixed income.

In my past life as a first responder I would push myself as long and as hard as I could, often to my own detriment.
