The Sylvan Lake Yettis lacrosse team picked up another win on Sunday when they play the Medicine Hat Sun Devils at home.

The 16-9 win for the Yettis brings their season to 4-1 so far, and one step close to the team’s goal of making it to the playoffs.

The Yettis were hot out of the gate, grabbing five points to start the game. Three of the goals in the first period were done on a power play, within 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Sun Devils picked up three points of their own in the first period.

Tristen Hess started the game off for the Yettis, scoring on the power play with 17:57 still to play in the first period.

With a score of 5-3 for the Yettis, the game looked to be closer than the last couple for the team.

The Yettis continued their streak when Zachary Daniels, assisted by Noah Sinclair, scored just seconds into the middle frame.

The second period was a bit slower for the Yettis, who picked up a total of three points in the frame.

The Sun Devils took advantage of the home team’s mid-game lag to try and decrease the gap. The Sun Devils out-scored the Yettis in the second period, successfully driving home four goals.

Going into the final 20 minutes of the game, it could have went either way. The Yettis had managed to keep their lead, but only just, with a score of 8-7.

After the first three minutes of the final period, the Yettis found their stride and took off.

Adam Sylvester, assisted by Josh Green and Daniels, put the Yettis into high gear with his goal roughly three minutes into the period.

With that the Yettis sent the ball into the net no less than eight times over the course of the period.

Seeing what the Sun Devils were capable of in the second period, the Yetti ensured they dominated the plays.

The Sun Devils were able to break through twice in the final minutes of the game.

The Yettis won 16-9 April 29 at home. The team will next play at home on May 5 against the Calgary Wranglers. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the NexSource Centre.

Though it is still early in the season, the Sylvan Lake Yettis are ranked second in the league. In first is the only team the Yettis have lost to thus far; the High River Heat.
