Sr. girls Eckville Aces pounce in home opener

The Eckville Aces senior girls basketball team walked out of their home opener with a win over the Parkview Adventist Academy Panthers on Dec. 10.

The 74-50 victory has the Aces starting their regular season 1-0 after the away game on Dec. 3 was cancelled due to weather.

The Aces opened the game offensively as they racked up 27 points in the first quarter while keeping the Panther’s at bay defensively.

The second quarter began with the Aces leading 27-8 and the scoring drive continued as six different Aces put points on the board.

The Aces wrapped up the half with a 43-23 lead.

Throughout the second half of the game the Aces continued to find the net while also keeping up a strong defensive front against the Panthers.

In the third quarter five different Aces accumulated 18 points to maintain a healthy 61-39 lead over the Panthers.

The Aces found themselves in bonus during the fourth quarter and were able up points from the foul line.

This quarter had eight different Aces scorers and ended with a 24-point victory for the senior girls.

Top scorers for the Aces were Madison Smith and Annika McAlpine with 20 points each.

Next on the Aces’ schedule is the PIC Tournament in Edmonton Dec. 14-15.

The senior girls will also be playing in the Sr. Basketball Alumni Game on Dec. 20.

The Aces will return to the court after Christmas holidays when they meet Caroline at home.
