The Eckville Senior Eagles lost out on the league championships Sunday afternoon to the Daysland Northstars for the second year in a row.

Eckville lead the series 2-1 going into Game 4 on March 17. The Eagles’ confidence faltered as the Stars took the game with a score of 5-3.

With the series tied at two games each, the series came down to one last game in Eckville.

The Eagles had won each of the home games in the series, but would have to battle for the banner.

The Northstars were just as determined as the Eagles, as could be seen with scoreless first period.

The Eagles took aim at the net roughly 15 times in the first frame of the championship game, only to have it deflected each time.

On the other hand, Eagles’ goal tender Travis Yonkman saved each of the 12 shots the Stars made on net.

The game was heated, with a few terse words and flying fists occurring between players, all the while the score remained at zero-all throughout most of the middle frame.

Daysland was first on the scoreboard, after beating Yonkman at the net late in the middle frame.

This gave the Stars the edge going into the final period with a score of 1-0.

The Northstars picked up another two points in the final minutes of the game. Though the Eagles came back to give the Stars a good fight to the end it wasn’t enough for the banner.

The Eagles scored twice before the final buzzer sounded and the Daysland Northstars were announced the winners.

The season ended for the Eckville Senior Eagles on March 18 in second place for the second year in a row.
