Atom A teams Lakers and Eagles met on the ice Nov. 18 with the Lakers winning the match at 10-7. While Eagles’ Stirling McCallum started the scoring right away with assistance from teammate Kane Scott, the Lakers had an advantage with their hat trick plus one player, Parker Small.
The Eagles still held the lead at the beginning of second period with their second goal made by Kane Scott and third goal made by Stone Ahlstrom with assistance from Sloan Lee. However, by the end of the period, the Lakers started to take charge.
Lakers did the most of their scoring during second period, scoring five goals; half of their total score. Parker took the Lakers’ second goal of the game, starting his streak of goals around the eleven minute point with assistance from teammate Jack Gulayets. Gulayets provided solid assistance throughout the game, aiding three of the team’s total goals.
The Lakers kept up their momentum with the next three goals. Tyler McChulloch scored with Lucas Byzitter’s assistance. Three minutes later Remy Painchaud teamed up with Levi Walker to score again. With a little over a minute left on the clock, Austin Mori-Goodman and Gulayet worked together to score again. Almost immediately after, Parker scored the sixth goal with Gulayet’s help, bringing him one goal closer to the hat trick.
Minutes into third period, Parker’s hat trick was a reality with teammate Mori-Goodman’s assist. Parker wasn’t quite finished and scored again about a minute later with teammate Painchaud’s support.
The Laker’s ninth goal was shot in by Painchaud with teammate, Walker’s assist and then the Eagles started to fight back with their fourth goal by Ahlstrom, assisted by Lee.
The teams started to get scrappy in the final period with the Lakers receiving two penalties and the Eagles receiving three as they battled to get some points back.
Lee scored the fifth goal and Kaiden Grzech scored the Eagle’s sixth goal solo in a valiant effort to catch up with the Lakers. The Lakers’ Grady Johannesson scored their tenth and final goal with help from Chase Heide with less than four minutes left in the game. The Eagles still didn’t give up, even with only eight seconds left and Nate Dickson scored their seventh goal with Brody Richardson’s assist. Unfortunately this was not lucky number seven for the Eagles and the Lakers won the game.
