The Eckville Sr. Eagles came back Sunday afternoon to tie up the first round of playoff games at one each.

The Jan. 27 game came less than 24 hours after a tough loss to the third place Devon Barons.

The Eagles flew to the Dale Fisher Arena in Devon for Game One of the best-of-five playoff series on Jan. 26.

After three periods of play the Eagles walked away with a 4-1 loss, and eager to make up ground the following day.

Travis Cech with the Eagles was the only one to score during Game One, with a little more than one minute remaining in the middle frame. Czech was assisted by teammates Ian Munro and Shawn Rowe.

The matinee game in Eckville the following day saw the Eagles with something to prove.

In the first period of play on Jan. 27 the Eagles flew hard and fast, and out-shot the visiting team, 18-12 attempted shots on goal in the first period.

During that time the Eagles capitalized on wholes in the defence, to score twice.

Matt Richardson was the first to put the Eagles on the score board and was followed by Jagger Bowles.

Meanwhile, the Barons could not find their opening in the first period, leaving the Eagles to lead going into the second 2-0.

The second period of Game Two was more evenly matched.

Coming out of the intermission, the Barons tried to close the gap. The visitors made 18 shots on net.

Travis Yonkman, goaltender for the Eagles, was at the top of his game and stopped all but two shots from finding the back on the net.

During the middle frame the Eagles only attempted nine goals. However, the home team had a higher success rate, and kept their lead.

With one period left, the Eagles had the lead, 4-2.

The final period saw both the Eagles and the Barons score once, for a final score of 5-3 for the Eagles.

With a tie series, the Eagles will see Game 4, which will be played at home on Feb. 2.

The puck drops at 7:30 at the Eckville arena on Feb. 2 for Game Four. Game Three will be played in Devon on Feb. 1, starting at 8 p.m.

The Eagles need to win three games to move on to Round Two of playoff action.
