The Eckville Eagles Atom 1 team is in provincial playdowns right now for Zone 4 Atom B.
The provincials, which consist of teams from all over Alberta, run from Jan. 18 to March 23.
Atom 1 Manager Tiphany Eliuk says Game One for the team was in Round Two, series two.
“We versed Clive/Alix Blackhawks on home ice and came out with a 12-2 win,” said Eliuk in an email, adding Game Two of the series was folded.
On Feb. 5 the Atom Eagles travelled to Millet for a 6 p.m. game on a very cold day.
“Both teams came out strong and we ended the first period in a 2-2 tie,” explained Eliuk, “we were able to get to a 7-5 lead in the second and went home with a big 11-6 win!”
Millet will make the trip to Eckville Feb. 14 for a 6:15 p.m. puck drop.
“The boys would love to have lots of community support so come enjoy an arena burger and a game,” Eliuk said, adding they are excited and nervous.
The Atom 1 Eagles are out a goalie for the next couple of weeks due to a broken arm and the boys have had to find a new way without Morgan Sully.
“We have had Griffin Thomas, a forward from our team, step up to be our goalie and something affiliate the goalie from our Atom 2 team,” said Eliuk.
Eliuk added she knows Sully can’t wait to get back on the ice and his team can’t wait to have him back.
“With a great group of support from our coaching staff and Pete Vandermeer leading us we are hoping to make provincials,” said Eliuk.
Provincials are in Picture Butte March 14-17.
