Eckville athletes vie for spot in upcoming track meet

It was cold and rainy on May 17, not exactly the best conditions for a track meet, but the rain doesn’t bother the athletes from Eckville Junior Senior High.

The meet on May 17 was arranged so young athletes from the school could qualify for the WC Junior Track Meet in Ponoka, next week.

From there they can qualify to move on to the last WC meet on May 29.

The Grade 10 class ran the events at the home meet and also volunteer at the Elementary School meet, which will take place on June 7.

Confirmed winners from the May 17 meet, who will move on to the competition in Ponoka are: Hope Parsons, Teryn Smith, Savannah McAlpine and Caleb B.

A few athletes will compete on May 23 for the Ponoka meet by completing the hurdles. Those with the chance to move on are: Nolan Brereton, Nolan Holub, Reed Sparrow, Ethan Brown and Reuben Goodliff.

The school would like to congratulate all athletes and volunteers on a job well done.

Four senior athletes also qualified on May 15 at Areas will be competing in Zones at Lindsay Thurber on May 23. This competition is to qualify to compete in Provincials in Red Deer on June 1 and 2.

Jacob Berdahl, Madison Smith, Peace Won and Kolton Glenn are the four who will represent Eckville at Zone on May 23.
