Crank Wrestling Club members medal at Westaskiwin Classic

The Westaskiwin Wrestling Classic was held Dec. 1-2, with 11 Eckville wrestlers participating

Crank Wrestling Club in Eckville kicked off the 2017/2018 freestyle wrestling season in an outstanding show of athleticism.

Seven elementary school wrestlers and four junior high wrestlers spent Dec. 1 competing at the 31st Annual Wetaskiwin Wrestling Classic.

The hard work and dedication the wrestlers put in over the summer months was evident in each wrestlers performance. The extra effort showed with the medals each wrestler brought home from the tournament.

For our junior high wrestlers, Kyan Martin, Aiden Mann, Sophia McAlpine and Savannah McAlpine extra pressure was added to perform as this was their chance to qualify for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games.

The stakes were high for these four athletes. They have trained exceptionally hard for the last six months. Preparing to wrestle the best four matches of each of their young wrestling careers.

Their hard work payed off, all four earned a spot on the Parkland Zone Team. Adam Laporte wants congratulate the fine young wrestlers, saying he cannot wait to see what the rest of the season holds.
