The Eckville Aces are on their way to the league championships after a startling defeat of the KCS Storm in Thursday night’s playoff game.
The Aces may have started the game a little slower, in the end the girls came out on top with a 63-43 win, Feb. 15.
In the first two quarter the Aces trailed just behind the Storm, ending the half with a score of 30-26 for the Storm.
While the Aces’ defence was strong when it came to stopping a run or grabbing up rebounds, the Storm had a strong passing game that had the Aces scrambling.
After a pep-talk by head coach Cody Magneson, the Aces came back with fire in their step.
The team was not only hot on the offence, but nearly unbeatable on defence.
The Storm made it through the Aces only once for two points in the their quarter.
Meanwhile, the Aces walked over the Storm, picking up 24 points in the third quarter and taking the lead.
With a score of 50-32 and one quarter still to play, the came could have still gone in either direction.
But with the league championship in sight, the Aces were not yet ready to give up.
The Storm picked picked up 11 points in the final frame of the game, hoping to catch up and have a shot at the title.
It wasn’t enough to stop the Aces though. The girls snatched up another 14 points to give the Aces a 20-point lead and the win.
The playoff game determined who would play for the title of league champ after the winter break.
The two teams playing in the title game will also play to qualify for Zones, which will be played in March.
