After struggling with many health issues, Mark passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack at age 58.
Mark was born in Edmonton and raised in Eckville, AB. From there he moved numerous times living his life "on the edge" until 7 years ago when he entered the Fresh Start Recovery Program in Calgary and remained clean and sober until his death. This was his hardest challenge and his greatest accomplishment. He carried a coin in his wallet that was embossed with praying hands and the words, "One Day at a Time". "Sometimes even one minute at a time", he said.
Mark had a contagious laugh and a sense of humor that brought hope and joy to others. He will be missed.
Mark is predeceased by his Dad Eddie Tiihonen (1993) and his daughter Christina Louise Haynes (2007). He is survived by his Mom Louise Tiihonen, sister and brother in law Jill and Barry Ziniewicz, his son Tyler Haynes and grandchildren Tyronne and Naomi, nieces and nephews and many others he loved as if they were his own family.
Mark's legacy is rooted deep in the words stamped on his coin: Live your life one day at a time.
In Mark's memory, donations can be made to the Fresh Start Recovery Centre in Calgary, AB. A private memorial service will be held there.
