Leida Koots of Eckville, Alberta, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully and went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 94 years.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ludwig in 2001, Leida will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons: Ron Koots, and Clarence (Aida) Koots; as well as her grandchildren: Trevor, Bruce (Jen), Katie (Brady), Geoffrey (Lauren), Shawna, and Kelsey; and her great grandchildren: Kahlie, Brinlee, Calvin, And Aeris.

Leida was born in Saaremaa, Estonia and raised on a farm in the idyllic seaside village of Mustjala, Saaremaa. In 1944, during WWII, Leida, her parents and brother, Herbert, left everything behind and fled to Sweden to escape the war. They lived and worked there until they decided to immigrate to Eckville, Alberta in 1950. Here Leida met Ludwig, and they were married in 1951.They farmed the Koots homestead farm north of Eckville until their retirement to Eckville in 1986. Leida was hard-working and had many talents. She worked on the farm, milking cows, baling, and taking meals to the field. Her gardens and flower beds were spectacular, she was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed weaving and handicrafts of all types, and was an outstanding cook. Family was very important to Leida. She was always present to cheer on her grandchildren whenever they were playing sports. A generous, dynamic, and spirited woman, Leida's door was always open. Her meals could always stretch to include extra people, her pantry always had freshly baked goods, and her coffee was always on. She was an active member of the Handicraft Society, both learning and teaching. Leida was well-loved by her family and many friends, and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her.

A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Leida's Life was held at the Gilby Hall, Gilby, Alberta on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Donald E. Koots officiating. Interment followed in the Gilby Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Leida's Memory may be made directly to the charity of one's choice.
