This week, Rimbey RCMP detachment responded to 66 calls for service. These files included, but are not limited to, seven break and enters, 14 theft related offences, one impaired driver, two cases of fraud and seven traffic collisions.
This week, mail was stolen from a community mail box at Highway 611 and Highway 771. Affected residents are encouraged to contact the Rimbey RCMP so that their name and contact information can be added to the file. In the event their mail is located, file 2018587555 refers. Police encourage residents to pick up mail often at this time of year as mail thefts are historically high this time of year.
After receiving a report of dangerous driving on Highway #20 near Rimbey, police located the vehicle which turned out to be stolen. The driver was arrested and charged with several offences including possession of stolen property.
A report was received about unruly teenagers at the skate park in town. Police attended and spoke to the teenagers about appropriate language and setting an example for the younger children. Past and current behaviour is a strong indicator of future behaviour, and parents are expected to help children be successful by making good decisions and conducting themselves in a respectful manner.
Five reports of copper wire and batteries theft from lease sites was received. Police also received a call from a local land owner who was reporting a suspicious vehicle stuck in the mud on a lease site. Police attended and determined that the vehicle was stolen and had copper wire in the back seat, and there was indication the suspects fled on foot. RCMP police dog services attended to track the suspects however these criminals made their way to a neighbouring property and located an unlocked vehicle with the keys within which enabled their escape. Police encourage residents to report any suspicious activity at lease sites and to keep their vehicles locked. This week Rimbey RCMP received five reports of thefts from vehicles and in each case, the vehicle was left unlocked.
