Sylvan Lake RCMP charge man in relation to stabbing on Lakeshore Drive

The victim’s condition is currently stable and he is being treated at a hospital.

A 21-year-old Benalto male was stabbed multiple times on Sylvan Lake’s Lakeshore Drive on July 6.

The RCMP investigation has resulted in charges being laid against 28-year-old Brandon James Ritchie for Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon.

The victim’s condition is currently stable and he is being treated at a hospital.

RCMP have issued a warrant for Ritchie’s arrest and are asking for the public assistance in locating him. Brandon James Ritchie is described as fair complexion, brown hair, 5’9”, 135 pounds with a neck tattoo.

Individuals are asked to not approach Ritchie and contact the Sylvan Lake RCMP at 403-887-3333 or the local police.

RCMP received a complaint around 7:10 p.m. The scene was attended by an ambulance and over five police vehicles.

A part of the sidewalk on Lakeshore Drive was also blocked for investigation.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said early reports reveal there was a dispute among some adults leading to a physical altercation and the stabbing. The suspect fled the scene.

The incident took place on a sidewalk bench located between 47 St. and 48 St. on Lakeshore Drive.

RCMP continues to search for the suspect.
