Lacombe County Highlights – July 9th, 2018

Lacombe County held a regular meeting of Council

Proposed industrial development – Following a public hearing for Bylaw 1273/18, Council gave second reading to this bylaw to change the zoning of approximately 60.4 hectares (149.3 acres) on NE 28-39-27-W4M (excepting Lot 1 Block 5 Plan 132 2124) and Lot 7 Block 6 Plan 182 0290, Pt. NW 28-39-27-W4M located on the east side of the wetland, from Agricultural ‘A’ District to Business Industrial ‘I-BI’ District.

This will allow for the expansion of Eagle Builders’ storage yard which is located south of the properties being rezoned.

Lacombe Regional Airport capital project – Council approved a request from the Lacombe Regional Airport to advance the Lacombe Regional Airport Solar Taxiway and Runway project to 2018 from 2022, as previously set out in the Lacombe Regional Airport Multi-Year Capital Plan; and furthermore, Council agreed to contribute funding of up to a maximum of $14,619 toward this project.

Sylvan lake summer villages request for funding – A combined request for $1,557 in grant funding from the Summer Villages of Birchcliff, Half Moon Bay and Sunbreaker Cove was approved by Council.

The money will support the communities’ 2018 events and will be funded through the County’s annual RC(9) policy allocation.

Paraguay fire equipment donations – A presentation regarding Project Paraguay, which sees the donation of fire equipment and qualified training to strengthen local capacity in Paraguay, was accepted for information.

Synergy west group – A motion to support the establishment of a Synergy Group in the west central area of Lacombe County was approved. Councillor Keith Stephenson and Councillor Ken Wigmore were appointed as Lacombe County’s representatives.

Assessment Review Board – Bylaw No. 1284/18 Assessment Review Board, a bylaw to establish assessment review boards and to enter into agreements to provide assessment review board services to other municipalities, received first, second and third reading, and was passed.

Council appointed Mr. John Bussan as Chairperson of the Lacombe County Local Assessment Review Board and the Lacombe County Composite Assessment Review Board.

Alberta Safety Codes Council – Council authorized Councillor Wigmore to serve on the Alberta Safety Codes Council Private Sewage Disposal Systems Working Group.

Blackfalds RCMP detachment delegation – S/Sgt Dan Martin, the new detachment commander for the Blackfalds RCMP, was introduced to Council.
