United Conservative Party candidate Jason Nixon cruised to re-election in the riding of Rimbey- Rocky Mountain House- Sundre.

Although it was a tight race in the rest of the province, Nixon had 9,899 votes with 17 of 19 polls reporting as of late Monday night.

Nixon said affordability and inflation were top of mind for voters.

“It’s the affordability and inflation issue. You hear it everywhere. It doesn’t matter the political stripe or the age bracket. People are having a tough time paying the bills right now there’s no doubt. about it. We heard that a lot and that’s probably why you saw the conservatives do so well tonight,” Nixon said from Original T’s restaurant in Sundre.

Nixon added that the UCP government will help address those needs.

“There’s no doubt that the government needs to be laser-focused on dealing with affordability problems for all of Albertans,” Nixon added.

Nixon said he has enjoyed his role and is confident in his ability and teamwork approach.

“I think I’ll have a valuable appointment with the Premier and I look forward to seeing where that will be.”
