There is lots of excitement going on in the Jason Nixon camp tonight as the popular UCP candidate easily wins the riding surging ahead with 7,404 votes with 52 of 83 votes reporting

“It went a lot faster than last time,” said an excited Nixon in a phone interview, Tuesday.

Nixon said he is very excited about the win, but mostly he is humbled by the support shown him in the riding.

“I want to say thank you, and I am very humbled,” he said, his voice tinged with excitement.

“I just want to say thank you and I will always fight for them … the people!

The UCP, formed two years ago by a merger of the progressive Conservatives and the Wildrose parties, easily won the election claiming most of the rural seats and took many seats in Calgary as the polls showed less than two hours after the voting polls closed.

Trailing Nixon was Jeff Ible - NDP - 1,018 followed by Joe Anglin, Alberta Party - 624. Next was Green Party candidate Jane Drummond with 135, followed by Dawn Berard - FCP - 118, David Rogers - AIP - 84 and Paula Lamoureux - AAP.
