A family residence across from the UFA on 54 Avenue in Eckville started on fire the morning of Jan. 14.

The fire started in the garage before moving to the family’s home and spreading to their neighbour’s holiday home as well.

The fire department was called in at 4:48 a.m. Twenty-three fire fighters from both Eckville and Rimbey battled the flames and had the fire under control by around 8 a.m.

While the house was not totally destroyed, Stuart Carde, fire chief for Eckville said there was so much smoke damage it is not likely the house will be salvaged.
