Jason Nixon says being named a cabinet minister is a “huge honour and a privilege.”

The MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre was sworn in as the Minister of Environment and Parks as well as Government House Leader on April 30.

“That was a unique moment and something I think I’ll remember probably for the rest of my life,” said Nixon in a phone interview, adding this swearing in felt different from the last.

Nixon described the swearing in as a “very humbling experience” and an exciting moment.

“But what was really on my mind though was just how grateful I was for the constituents of Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre to be able to be able to get the opportunity to serve Albertans in this way,” Nixon said.

He says his number one job will always be being MLA for his constituency and he will continue to be available to his constituents despite the new responsibilities.

“We’re obviously going to have to make some adjustments to accommodate both roles, but the way I will handle that is to just always make my constituency and my constituents my number one priority, which will not change,” explained Nixon.

He says it was an honour to be sworn in as MLA four years ago and it will be an honour to be sworn in again for his second term.

Additionally, Nixon is looking forward to working with his cabinet colleagues and under the leadership of Premier Jason Kenney.

He says they are focused on getting the province going in the right direction.

Nixon added the government is going to work as fast as possible, as promised, to get Albertans back to work.

“We have a great mandate from Albertans and we’re going to keep our word and get to work on what they’ve asked us to do,” said Nixon.
