The Medicine River Crime Watch Society is sponsoring the inaugural Coffee with a Cop event in Eckville.
The event will be taking place at the Boxcar Grill and will have members of the Medicine River Crime Watch Society, Red Deer County peace officers, Lacombe County peace officers, and Sylvan Lake RCMP Detachment officers in attendance.
Coffee with a Cop will provide an opportunity for an open conversation, Medicine River Crime Watch board member, and Lacombe County Councillor for Division 7 Dana Kreil said.
"By opening up this communication and this relationship between the RCMP and the citizens of the area it can help people become the eyes and ears for the community as they become more aware to report suspicious activity to the RCMP. "
The event will create awareness of what the RCMP does and about what the Medicine River Crime Watch Society does, she added.
"People will also be able to learn how they can join our board, or become members of the crime watch."
Lacombe County and Red Deer County peace officers will also be bringing information about the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) program.
"CPTED is a free service provided by both counties where a peace officer will come to your home, to look around and provide helpful tips to take extra precautions," Kreil said.
If the Coffee with a Cop goes well it will be something that will be done again.
The event will take place on Tuesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. and is open to anyone to attend.
