The Eckville Municipal Library is bringing super heroes with its Summer Reading Program

The summer reading program is open to children between the ages of six to 12

The Eckville Municipal Library is really excited for its Summer Reading Program this year, said Programmer Liz Lozo.

The library even has a theme this year.

“Our theme is superheroes to represent how our children and ourselves have been so adaptable and resilient through all the changes over the last year.”

The theme focuses on everything from imaginary superheroes, to local heroes, and being a real life superhero in day to day activities, said Lozo.

The summer reading program is open to children between the ages of six to 12.

“This year’s summer reading program will be similar to last year with take-home packages available for pick-up throughout the summer. The packages include fun activities, crafts, and games for children to complete at home.”

Participants will have to track their reading they have done over the summer and with that they can enter to win prizes.

“We have some awesome prizes this year and all levels of readers will have a chance to win prizes, from top reader to random draws.”

This year there is also a special activity that all ages can enjoy called a Story Walk, she said.

“A Story Walk is where a storybook is placed along the Eckville walking path at a designated time and people can find it. People can look at the library’s Facebook, Instagram or call the library for times and location.”

To register your child and pick up the first package, people will have to stop at the library and if parents have any questions they can call the library at 403-746-3240, said Lozo.

“Our hours are Tuesday 10-6, Wednesday 10-6, Thursday 2-8, and Friday 10-6. We also have packages available for younger children, so everyone can have free activities to keep busy.”

The library also currently offers a Teen Bring-Your-Own-Book Club once a month and an adult book club will start up again in the fall.

Staff members are also planning a way to attract more people to the library.

“We are preparing a book bingo with prizes so people will stop by,” she said.

The library is open for any member of the community to enjoy.

“Everyone is welcome to stop by the library and see all our new books, DVDs, audiobooks, use the computers or access our free Wi-Fi, and of course enjoy the air conditioning.”
