The senior girls Aces are in league finals after a 77-48 win over the Bentley Panthers on Feb. 13 in front of a packed house.

The Aces hit the court ready to fight and played to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter.

The senior girls held their ground and pulled ahead even further in the second quarter, putting them up 41-20 over the Panthers at the half.

The Aces continued to add to their growing lead as the second half ticked on.

The girls defeated Bentley with a 29 point deficit at the final buzzer.

“We’re having a great season, [a] better season than what we thought,” said Coach Cody Magneson. “We have a young team, no Grade 12s and five Grade 9s.”

Magneson added there wasn’t many expectations for the season with half the team being in junior high.

The Aces’ next playoff game, which will be for the league’s top spot, will be on the road on Feb. 25.

Going into the next playoff game the team is going to work on keeping the intensity up and working hard.

The senior girls are heading to Hay Lakes this weekend for a tournament and will meet the H.J. Cody Lakers for an exhibition game to help the Aces fine tune their game for the next round of playoffs.

The game against the Lakers will tip off at 6 p.m. at Eckville Jr/Sr High School on Feb. 20.

The senior girls Aces are an honourable mention as one of the top 15 teams in Alberta in 1A basketball.
