In a game full of penalties, the Bantam B Lakers beat the 3Cs 3 - 0 Dec. 3 at NexSource Centre.

The Lakers were in a fighting mood with a total of thirteen penalties spread out over all three periods including spearing, roughing, checking, and a ten minute game misconduct call.

Despite the high penalty count, Lakers coach Ryan Lucas had positive words to say of his team.

“It was a good group effort. We got off to a little bit of a slow start. But the kids stuck with it, penalties aside.”

For the first two periods, neither team scored. During the third period, the Lakers started to get down to business with Lakers Ben LaFreniere scoring the first goal early in the period, assisted by teammates Seth Rosentreter and Kole Simpson.

Half-way through the period LaFreniere scored again, assisted by Tyson Attwood.

After racking up a couple more penalties, the Lakers scored their final goal with a little less than two minutes left on the clock. Lakers’ Karter Katerynch shot the third goal in with assistance from Attwood.

Lucas summed the game up from his perspective:

“I’d like to see the kids cut down on the penalties a little bit but the last period they bought in, they kept going, they kept working as a team, they got rewarded…after that we actually got them back on their heels and then we were able to just keep the pressure on them. I think we just wore them out in the third period,” he said.

The Lakers are now tied with the 3Cs with three wins and one loss. This is the fourth game out of fifteen.

“If this team plays today like they did in the third period I think there’s going to be some good things that come out of this dressing room,” Lucas said.
