Red Deer man found guilty for Eckville disturbance

A Red Deer man has been found guilty of assaulting two Mounties in an incident from more than two years ago in Eckville.

Leon Williams was found guilty on June 22 in Red Deer Provincial Court.

Williams was found guilty on several charges including two counts of assaulting a peace officer, mischief and resisting arrest.

On Feb. 19, 2015, RCMP officers responded to a disturbance at the Eckville Post Office.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man causing the disturbance, Williams, 53, is said to have chocked one of the officers and punched the other in the head.

Williams evaded arrest and additional officers were called to the scene before he was taken into custody.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 6 for sentencing.
