Road projects need smile from Mother Nature

Beautiful fall weather will be required for Lacombe County to accomplish its road building goals in the Eckville area.
But there’s little hope of beginning a project south of Kuusamo, in the Sylvan Lake area.
Phil Lodermeier, the county’s manager of operations, said in his report to councillors, last Thursday, “the schedule for the construction crew is now completely wrecked for the year and it is unlikely we will get anywhere close to what we originally planned for projects this year.”
Poor weather through the summer construction season is to blame for delays.
The crew was scheduled to move to the Eckville area to begin work on four miles of Range Road 4-2 in the next week or two. That project is expected to take a minimum of eight weeks putting its completion about the end of October.
“What we will likely not get done is some of the roads southwest of Sylvan Lake,” he told councillors. “It’s unlikely we will get anything done southwest of Sylvan Lake.”
The original goal was to complete work on about eight miles of roads in the Sylvan Lake area beginning with the Kuusamo Krest road.
However, if they get good road building weather, they could still tackle some of the work in the Kuusamo area. It all depends on weather and how late into the fall they can work.
